Benefits of MineGlow’s Ultra Long Range Tunnel LED Strip Lights
Ground conditions, limited visibility and geological factors makes tunnelling a tough and unpredictable job. A good tunnel lighting system is essential not only for energy efficiency and site productivity, but to ensure the safety of your workers at all stages of construction, and beyond.
Industrial grade Ultra Long Range LED strip lighting is today’s first choice for tunnelling. Here’s why:
Distance matters
MineGlow’s LED strip lights solutions provide continuous illumination along the entire tunnel, vastly improving site safety and visibility while reducing the risk of asset damage. Our Tunnel Lighting solution runs lengths of up to 400m between power sources, delivering the longest continuous LED strip lighting available.
Back-up power
Indestructible hardware
Tunnels can often be subject to harsh and corrosive environments. Keep working conditions safe with our IP67 rated LED strip lighting, engineered to thrive in such conditions with dust and moisture repelling PVC or silicone extrusion.

Our Popular Solutions for Smart Tunnel LED Strip Lights System
1. x-Glo Tunnel Range
Our Ultra Long Range LED Tunnel Lighting is the result of close collaboration with our tunnelling customers in understanding their lighting requirements.
Each strip is ordered in pre cut lengths of 5, 10 and 20m that are linked together to provide continuous light span of up to 400m depending on the lumen output.
The LED Light strip is rated IP67 and encased into a solid silicon extrusion with nanotech dust and dirt retardant properties to keep the LEDs shining brightly and consistently in the harshest environments.
2. x-Glo Long Range (LR)
3. SafeGlo Range
Keep your workforce safe with our IECEx certified explosion-proof strip lights system and making them safe for use in areas where airborne vapours or dust could create an explosion hazard. Our explosive-proof range is the latest addition to the x-Glo portfolios. Moreover, it is the only IECEx certified and ATEX LED strip light available today.

FAQs
What is the best lighting solution for tunnels?
Continuous LED strip lighting is widely regarded as one of the most effective lighting solutions for tunnels. It provides uniform illumination across the entire tunnel length, improving visibility, safety, and operational efficiency.
Ultra long-range LED strip lighting delivers consistent 6500K daylight output over extended distances, helping reduce shadow zones, minimise glare, reduce fatigue, and improve overall working conditions.
Why is continuous lighting important in tunnelling?
Continuous lighting is critical for eliminating dark spots, reducing glare, and improving safety in tunnels.
Uneven lighting can create shadow zones that increase the risk of accidents and reduce visibility for workers and equipment. Continuous illumination helps improve site awareness and reduce operational hazards throughout the tunnel.
How far can LED strip lighting run in tunnels?
LED strip lighting can run up to 400 metres between power sources, but the overall distance is unlimited.
This reduces the need for multiple power connections, lowering electrical infrastructure requirements such as power supplies and junction boxes, while also reducing installation complexity and overall installation time.
These systems have been installed in projects ranging from 500 metres to 35 kilometres and can operate over virtually any tunnel distance required, with power typically needed only every 100 to 400 metres depending on the lumen output required.
Ultra long-range tunnel lighting is particularly beneficial in tunnelling environments where access to power may be limited.
How does tunnel LED lighting improve safety?
Tunnel LED strip lighting improves safety by enhancing visibility and reducing glare.
Consistent, daylight-like illumination helps workers identify hazards earlier, reducing the risk of incidents in low-light environments. Proper, even lighting conditions also allow work tasks to be carried out more effectively.
Continuous lighting helps eliminate shadows and hazardous dark zones throughout the tunnel.
Can these tunnel lights operate in harsh underground conditions?
Yes. Being Industrial grade LED strip lighting they are specifically designed for harsh and hazardous tunnel environments.
These systems are built and continuously tested to withstand dust, moisture, vibration, corrosive materials, and extreme temperature fluctuations.
The Tunnel lighting strips have certified IP67 and IK10 ratings; designed to resist water ingress and high impacts, while operating reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +50°C.
They are engineered for demanding underground conditions where standard lighting systems often fail.
Does tunnel LED strip lighting reduce installation time?
Yes. LED strip lighting can significantly reduce both installation and relocation time in tunnel projects.
Its flexible, continuous design allows for rapid deployment and easy repositioning as tunnel construction progresses. Unlike traditional tunnel lighting, which typically requires individual light fixtures and power connections every 2–5 metres, LED strip lighting generally consists of just two main components: the LED strip and the power supply.
The lighting can also be quickly attached to existing infrastructure using magnetic hooks or cable ties.
This simplified setup can reduce installation time by up to 70%, while also minimising downtime for maintenance and relocation, improving overall project efficiency.
What types of tunnels can LED strip lighting be used in?
LED strip lighting is suitable for all major tunnel types.
This includes road tunnels, rail tunnels, pedestrian tunnels, mining tunnels, water or sewage tunnels, culverts, escape tunnels, and immersed or cut-and-cover tunnels.
These lighting systems are highly adaptable to different tunnel designs and operational requirements.
How does LED strip lighting reduce costs in tunnelling projects?
LED lighting reduces costs by lowering energy consumption, infrastructure requirements, and maintenance needs.
The MineGlow Tunnel Lighting long run lengths reduce the amount of cabling and the number of power connection points required, while the durable low-profile design minimises maintenance and replacement costs.
If a section of the light strip fails, the remainder of the lighting system continues operating, as failures are typically isolated to a small 10 cm segment of the strip.
Lighting-related project costs can be reduced significantly through lower installation, maintenance, and energy expenses.
What happens if power is lost in a tunnel with a LED Strip lighting system?
Our Ultra Long LED strip lighting systems can continue operating even if one power source fails.
Some systems include backup power functionality, allowing lighting to remain operational at reduced illumination levels for approximately 90 to 120 minutes during a power outage.
This helps maintain safety and operational continuity in tunnels where power supply may be inconsistent or limited.
How long does tunnel LED lighting last?
Our Ultra long-range tunnel LED lighting is designed to operate continuously for up to 10 years with minimal maintenance.
These systems are engineered for 24/7 operation in demanding environments, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
With low failure rates and long operational lifespans, MineGlow’s continuous LED tunnel lighting has demonstrated reliable long-term performance in harsh underground conditions.
